Independence

The coolest thing about my job is creating situations for failure. When most teachers are pushing for success and achievement, I am looking for opportunities for students to make mistakes. Safely setting up an environment for students to learn from mistakes in real life takes some exploring and time to problem solve all possible things that can go wrong.

Learning to navigate the Public Transportation System can be scary for parents and students. I think a parents fears are higher! Students blossom when they find the freedom to move about in their community. Safety is an essential skill to embed into the classroom lessons. Making it fun and realistic is the key!

In this video the students role play getting on the bus, paying money, waiting at the bus stop and being prepared for their ride. After they watched themselves on each clip and analyzed what could be improved during the next take. As they refined their performance they developed the skills needed to take a real bus ride to the grocery store.
